Ministries & Groups
"There is a variety of gifts but always the same Spirit; there are all sorts of services to be done, but always the same Lord; working in all sorts of different ways in different people, it is the same God who is worshiped."
- I Corinthians 12: 3-7, 12-13
Here at St. Francis we have many volunteers helping in a variety of ministries. Below are some of the ministries present at St. Francis.
Parish Pastoral Council:
Our Parish Pastoral Council advises the Pastor or Parish Administer on matters pertaining to both the material and spiritual aspects of the life of the parish. As well, the Parish Pastoral Council members help the Pastor or Parish Administrator carry out decisions fo the Council.
Altar Servers:
This ministry is for young people who have received their first communion. In addition to regularly serving a parish masses, the altar servers gather for training, for meals, and for recreation. The object of the ministry is to train altar servers in all aspects of serving at the altar including serving during visits by the Bishop, and at weddings and funerals and also to give the altar servers social together so they can serve well together.
Outreach Ministry to the Homebound and the Elderly:
This ministry offers visits, companionship and the Eucharist to elderly and infirm members of the Parish. So many of our people are aging and coming to that point in their lives when they can no longer travel to the Parish church. Our volunteers to out to these brothers and sisters on behalf of the church in general and our other parishioners in particular so that our elderly and infirm are no deprived of companionship and the sacraments in the final years of their lives.
Cemetery Maintenance Committee:
St. Francis Xavier has a cemetery and consequently has separate legal duties to perform in maintaining the cemetery and the cemetery records. Our Cemetery Maintenance Committee keeps the grass and weeds mowed, that debris is collected and disposed of and ensures that the graves are both respected and protected.
Maintenance Committee for the Church and the Parish Centre:
Our Parish Maintenance Committee keeps our Parish facilities repaired and grounds are well tended. We are hoping to start a tradition of regularly scheduled Work Bees so that parishioners of all ages can contribute to the beautifying of the Parish property.
